Botox® / Xeomin®

Botox Cosmetic, Dysport, and Xeomin are important players in facial rejuvenation arena. These injectables will temporarily block the contraction and movement of muscles in the treatment area. After treatment, patients will notice a spectacular improvement in the lines of the forehead, Crow’s Feet, and Frown Lines. When applied by a skilled professional, there is little risk of a ‘frozen face’. Results will look natural and youthful.

Injections take only minutes in the office and require no downtime. Patients are back doing their normal activities that same afternoon. Some redness or pinpoint bleeding may occur after treatment but this will resolve quickly. Results from treatment will begin to show around two to three weeks after the injections. Benefits from Botox, Dysport, and Xeomin last between three and four months, after which time a repeat treatment will be necessary.

Botox Cosmetic

This magical wrinkle reducing injectable is made from Botulinum Toxin. Used to temporarily paralyze targeted muscles, Botox has the ability to relax Dynamic wrinkles (from repetitive muscle movement) and smooth the skin.

Patients with prominent facial lines may benefit from Botox Cosmetic injections. Common treatment areas include frown lines, crow’s feet lines, and horizontal forehead lines. By temporarily relaxing the muscles, Botox Cosmetic can smooth out these lines, restoring a more youthful, less stressed expression to your face while maintaining a natural appearance.

Botox is a popular non-surgical injection that temporarily reduces or eliminates frown lines, forehead creases, crow’s feet near the eyes and thick bands in the neck. The protein blocks the nerve impulses, temporarily weakening the muscles that cause wrinkles while giving the skin a smoother, more refreshed appearance.

Don’t trust your Botox treatments to just anyone!  Noticeable improvement may be seen within a week. Results typically last around three months.

Muscle relaxants

Botox, Xeomin, and Dysport are the FDA approved muscle relaxants in the US. Recently Jeuveau was also approved but it is not available at this time.

Mechanism of Action

All these muscle relaxants/neuromodulators act by binding to the pre-synaptic membrane of the motor neurons and cleaves the SNAP-25 in motor neurons. This inhibits the release of acetylcholine at the motor endplate which relaxes/paralyzes the muscle.

Differences between Botox, Xeomin, Dysport

Botox is a 900KD molecule which has proteins surrounding the botulinum toxin. Xeomin is known as the “naked molecule” as it does not have any proteins surrounding the Botilinum toxin. Dysport surrounds the botulinum toxin with a combination of 350 and 500 KD protein.
